Your ads bring views, not sales
Short answer:the platform’s job is to bring people to you; your store’s job is to turn them into buyers. When impressions arrive, clicks are cheap and sales are zero, the fault is usually after the click rather than before it. There are four specific places people leave, and all four are measurable by name rather than by guesswork.
The scenario, described the same way twice
A Saudi marketer named it the blind boosting trap, and described it in order: you open Ads Manager on TikTok or Snapchat, set a respectable budget, choose broad targeting and launch. Two days later you check: thousands of impressions, excellent clicks, very cheap cost per click. Delighted, you open your store dashboard to see the profit, and the bitter truth lands: zero sales, or orders too few to mention.
He named the cause too, calling it the illusion of surface numbers: being pleased by views and engagement while never checking where the customer got stuck.
In roughly the same month, a second practitioner described the identical scenario, a successful campaign, thousands of visits, zero sales and thousands of abandoned carts. A third, after reviewing an account that had spent $12,000 across TikTok and Meta with nothing to show, summarised it in one line: the problem is not in the ad, it is in the whole experience after the click.
All three are marketers writing while selling their services. Their description of the pattern is precise, but this is practitioner voice rather than merchant voice, and it is worth saying so plainly.
The four places people leave
- Between the click and the page opening. Some people never arrive at all: a heavy page, or a long wait on a mobile connection. The platform counts them as clicks and they never appear as visits on your side, which is a genuine cause of the gap between the two numbers.
- Between arriving and the product. They arrived, but the page they landed on does not resemble the ad they tapped. The ad promised a specific product and dropped them on the homepage, so they are lost within seconds.
- Between the product and the cart. They saw it and did not add it. Price, images, a missing detail, or a shipping cost that appeared late.
- Between the cart and payment. The most expensive point on the list, because these are the people closest to buying. The recurring causes: forcing account creation, missing payment options, shipping revealed at the final step, and a long form on mobile.
Distinguishing between the four matters, because each has a completely different remedy. If you do not know which one is losing you money, you will rewrite the ad while the leak is at checkout.
What you need to see, by name
- A full funnel: visit, product view, add to cart, purchase, and the rate between each pair of steps.
- Pages: which receive the visits, and which lose them.
- Cities: sometimes the campaign reaches a city you do not really serve, or one whose shipping cost kills the order.
- Peak hours: when people actually buy, not when they browse.
Together, those four change the question from “why are there no sales?” to “I lose 60% between cart and payment”, and that is a question with an answer.
Where MIQAS comes in
Website insights show those four directly: the funnel step by step, best-converting pages and products, a demand heatmap by hour, and which city and device your visitors arrive on.
The visit is captured by the same first script along with the click identifier it arrived with, so you know which channel delivered the visitor who stalled at step three, rather than only that some people stalled.
Product and page performance sits alongside it, so you know which product sells and which page converts, instead of inferring it from platform figures. These insights are available from Starter, because this question should not have to wait until you grow.
What to do this week
- Pull your visit-to-purchase conversion rate for the last two weeks. One number.
- Break it into the four steps and find the largest single drop.
- Fix that step alone, and measure for two weeks.
- Do not touch the budget until you have. Spending more against a broken experience enlarges the loss in exact proportion.
The boosting is not blind. You are only seeing half the journey.
